The Optimal Pump Scheduling module allows users to specify pressure and velocity constraints, then computes the most cost-effective and efficient manner of operating multiple pumps in multiple pump stations. In addition to pressure and velocity requirements, the user may also specify tank level constraints. As an example, a constraint might be stated as, “The final tank level must be greater than or equal to the initial tank level.” This module employs the powerful genetic algorithm-based solution pioneered by KYPipe for hydraulic calibration of water distribution networks. This unique method is based on several years of research at the University of Kentucky; the method’s problem formulation and selection of decision variables results in a highly compact solution space arriving at the most economical pump scheduling solution. |
This feature optimizes distribution models by turning pumps on and off at specific times. |
