Pipe Ratings Exceedance Feature

New for Pipe2026, this feature calculates the margin by which the pressures within the model are above (or below) the manufacturer’s pressure ratings for each pipe within the model.

The sign convention used in the Map Area is as follows:

  1. Positive values show an exceedance of the manufacturer’s pressure ratings.
  2. Negative values show the system pressures remain below the manufacturer’s pressure ratings.

In addition to calculating the pressure margin, this feature emphasizes pipes by their pressure rating – that is, it color-codes the pipes using a the following key:

  1. Green. For pipes well-under the manufacturer’s pressure rating (margin ≥ 10 psi) .
  2. Yellow. For pipes which are also under the manufacturer’s pressure ratings but within 10 psi of an exceedance – a “cautionary” color.
  3. Red. For pipes where the manufacturer’s pressure rating is exceeded.
Pipe Rating Exceedances

This feature also includes an auto-generated Analysis Report that lists all pipes where the pressure rating was exceeded, see the example below. Note that the negative signs are omitted for purposes of this Report – each of the values in the Report shows the exact amount by which the manufacturer’s pressure rating was exceeded for a given pipe:

Note that KYPipe, like most hydraulic software, calculates pressures at nodes, not pipes. Therefore, the software compares the manufacturer’s pressure rating for each pipe to the higher pressure value at either end of the pipe to determine the Ratings Exceedance Margin.

This feature can also generate an Animated Profile of the pipeline with the system pressures converted to an HGL line (green line in the image below) and the manufacturer’s pressure rating for each pipe likewise converted to an HGL line (blue line in the image below) – therefore, in areas where the green line appears above the blue line, the model has calculated that an exceedance of the pressure rating will occur for those pipes (red lines in the image below):
