Originally developed by Civil Engineering professors from the University of Kentucky, KYPipe has been continually updated and maintained for over 40 years, and is the most widely used- and trusted hydraulic analysis engine in the world.
KYPipe models water, petroleum, refined products, chemicals, refrigerants, low pressure sewer systems and more. It can be used for selecting and sizing pipes, pumps, valves, tanks and other devices. Users can run steady-state simulations or Extended Period Simulations (EPS) whose simulation times can be hours to days.
Users can import from (and export to) EPANET, AutoCad, GIS Shapefiles, Google Earth files, and Microsoft Excel files. Calibration tools and pump operation optimization features help ensure sound modeling. See more here: KYPipe Overview Page.

The following links describe the basic elements of a network model including a discussion of importing and exporting to and from other common software packages.
The following links describe the types of analysis available within KYPipe. These tools are in addition to a basic steady-state analysis and an Extended Period Simulation (which is a simulation over a time period of hours to days).
- Optimal Pump Scheduling.
- Optimal Design Module.
- Calibrating a System in KYPipe.
- Water Quality Analysis.
- Water Quality Calibration.
- Optimal Water Quality Sensor Placement Tool.
- Expanded Rural Analysis.
- Operational Control Settings.
- KYPipe Time-Saving Tools.
KYPipe also offers a System Curve Analysis tool so prospective pump types and pump speeds can be visually fitted to a plot of the head-flow curve of the total system. Users can also plot curves for pumps in series and pumps in parallel against the system curve.
This links to a list of a mere fraction of the satisfied users who have trusted KYPipe software and technical support throughout our 40+ years of existence:
Example from Tetra Tech FHC:
“We used Surge 2000 to analyze transients in a raw water discharge line, approximately 14 miles, 24″/36.” Your customer support as well as the technical support was extremely useful. Your have a great product. I was very pleased with the software.”
