Chapter 2 – Problem 2.10

2.10 Suppose the rapid opening of certain fire hydrants (and the associated occurrence of extreme low-pressure conditions) was determined to be the cause of pathogen intrusion in the previous question. To prevent future occurrences of waterborne disease outbreaks, the water utility decides to perform surge analyses simulating the opening and closing of fire hydrants, one hydrant at a time, for all its 500 hydrants.

If it takes an average of 10 min of computer time for each hydrant (to setup the surge analysis model for each hydrant, analyze the model, and process the results) how many normal 8-hr workdays are needed to complete the task?
